Welcome to High School Art I
In Art I, students will explore the four main areas in art:
- Aesthetics
- Art Production
- Art Criticism
- Art History
Art I is a largely studio-based class, meaning students will be working mostly with different art media. There will be some written assignments, but mostly it will be project based. Each Friday, class time will be for studying current, modern, or classic artists, as well as definitions of art terms relating to what is being taught in class. Check back frequently to this site for PowerPoint's and videos that we watched in class.
In short, we will learn what the meaning of art is, who made it and is still making it, why it is being made, how to express what we think about it, and how we can make it ourselves by learning techniques that artists use. Understanding art history is important so that as future artists, we can take what other artists did and apply it in a new way that expresses how we currently think or feel.
Art in it's truest form is self-expression. Given the right tools, all students should be able to express their own thoughts and ideas in a variety of art media.
